Roger Ferguson Jr - a black quantitative analyst baby!
Last week I introduced you to two black quantitative analysts. In a cliffhanger of a post, I promised to finish the rest of the introduction Monday. Sorry to have kept you waiting. Here’s 1/2 of the rest of what I think is a very interesting story.

This bespectacled fellow is Roger Ferguson, Jr., President and Chief Executive Officer of TIAA-CREF, (the Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association - College Retirement Equities Fund), one of the largest financial services companies in the United States, with $398 billion in assets under management.
TIAA-CREF manages retirement and many other investment accounts for clients at more than 15,000 institutions, more than 3.4 million people in the academic, research, medical and cultural fields.
Besides the uniqueness of an educated black man at the helm of one of the largest financial services companies in the U.S, here’s another unique point. TIAA-CREF is one of the few companies to continue to earn the AAA rating from Moody’s, the world reknowned service which performs financial research and analysis for many investors.
AAA is the absolute highest rating, which means that as the solvency of many companies, especially financial institutions, is in doubt, TIAA-CREF looks rock solid.
Way to go TIAA, and way to go Roger.
Among many other academic and professional acheivements, Ferguson has a Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University.
Yesterday I put a free shirt in the mail for Odest for his comment here; today I think I’ll put a shirt in the mail for Roger. And you out there, you can get one too.
