What is it again?

Up, up!

EducatedBlackMan.com (or EBM). The general ideas is a community-powered current affairs and culture magazine for the college educated black man. The site  would have an ecommerce section offering unique, relevant, appealing products.  EBM combines content and commerce with social activism, using part of its profits to sponsor philanthropic activities. EBM is slate.com + digg.com for the educated black man.

Why. To be the outspoken voice to balance and address the skewed stereotypes of the black male and stand as the “voice of reason” among a generation of educated black men. Black men are not all angry like Al Sharpton, nor do we all think a grill like lil jon’s is the best way to invest money.
To provide the educated black man multi-faceted, relevant content. To become a movement, with online community where the educated black man can meet those like himself to gain and share knowledge, and engage in discussion.

Perspective
EBM expresses the duality of the formally educated black man living in the world. Sometimes he’s an outsider trying to fit in.  Other times an insider struggling to break out. EBM reflects the attitude of the  O.B.G.I.T.R. using humor, intelligence, positivity, and resourcefulness to overcome obstacles.

Philanthropic objectives
Like to do things like: give sponsorships to events and organizations, award scholarships, and give presentations to school children, provide encouragement and motivation for black men to attend college, like start a foundation to support Black males in computer science. More.

Content

Could be: unique stories covering a wide area of topics including politics, arts, culture, sports, technology, and news. Content specifically related to the black experience. but also humorous, thoughtful, and  inspiring content. Imagine stories in categories like Obama Watch (all things Obama), and AfroMania (Someone, somewhere is wearing an afro..) too.

Also new content, sourced specifically for the site.  For example, regular/semi-regular columns by notable figures (Any ideas? Connections?) as well as in depth feature articles. Video content, books, etc.

Or?

What you do think?
